The Wooster City Schools Board of Education approved the superintendent—s consent agenda, which included personnel actions: retirements, resignations, leaves and several hires for certified and classified positions.
Superintendent (name not specified) announced that Oona King will retire at the end of the year and thanked her for long service at Keene. The consent agenda also included long‑term substitute and contract substitute arrangements for high school math, multiple classified hires and resignations, and a new library technician hire at Melrose.
Administrators discussed a staffing reclassification: several paraprofessional positions previously designated as behavior paraprofessionals will now require Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification. The superintendent said the change is additional training and de‑escalation skills rather than an increase in the number of positions. The district currently has one trained RBT, a floating RBT who works with the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) for interventions as needed, and over time the district plans to train staff so RBT‑trained personnel will be available in the four elementary schools and the middle school where applicable. The superintendent also said RBTs are recognized in the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) under a new classification.
Why it matters: The RBT reclassification aims to increase in‑district expertise for behavior interventions and better meet IEP‑driven student needs. The retirements and hires address staffing transitions ahead of the school year.
Next steps: Human resources will onboard the new hires and coordinate RBT training; administrators and the BCBA will deploy the floating RBT as needed.
