The Wooster City Schools treasurer presented the district—s annual report on purchases and maturities of commercial paper and banker acceptances, a required disclosure under Ohio law, and said the district realized nearly $300,000 in investment income from the activity.
The treasurer explained the report is a statutory requirement and comes from Red Tree Investments, the firm that manages the district—s short‑term investments. "It is almost $300,000 in income that we weren't taking advantage of in the past," the treasurer said, thanking staff for changing practices to capture that income. The report and related documents will be submitted to the Ohio Department of Education and the Auditor of State as required.
The board approved the treasurer's consent agenda, including the July 31 financial report and two donations (one supporting girls golf from Port's Petroleum and another to the school's "general closet" from the Wayne County Community Foundation). Board members asked whether the community foundation donation came from a fund within the foundation and were told it likely originated from a fund, possibly generated by a family.
Why it matters: Investment income can offset district costs and improve fiscal flexibility; required reporting ensures transparency to state oversight agencies.
Next steps: The treasurer said she expects to bring the fall FY26 forecast and final appropriations to the September meeting.
