The Whitefish Community Development Board on Oct. 16 unanimously recommended approval of WZTA25-05, a city-initiated zoning text amendment that replaces references to "formula retail" with the updated term "formula business" in the Architectural Review Standards (sections 3.1 and 5.9).
Planning staffer Wendy described the amendment as a housekeeping change needed after the city updated the zoning code in July 2025 to replace the older term. "The purpose of having the Architectural Review Standards for formula business is to ensure the final design of projects complement the character of Whitefish versus a typical corporate design," Wendy said. The sections affected were identified for the Highway 93 South area and the WV‑1 area.
Staff recommended approval, noting the amendment aligns the Architectural Review Standards with the updated definition and provides guidance to ensure design compatibility for formula business proposals. There was no public comment at the hearing.
A board member moved to approve WZTA25-05 as presented in the staff report; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
The recommendation will be forwarded to City Council as the city’s formal zoning-text amendment request. No additional conditions or modifications were made by the board at the hearing.
