Commission approves Dragonfly Bookshop sign on Main Street; owners plan October opening

The Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 9 approved a design-variance request allowing Dragonfly Bookshop to install a 12-square-foot wall sign above its entrance at 4055 Main Street (tenant suite 300), subject to four staff conditions.
Staff said the proposed sign would be consistent with the sign code when accounting for the tenant width and noted three small accent colors on the proposed logo would not make the sign excessive. "Staff finds that the proposed design variance is not substantial, would not be detrimental to surrounding property owners, and would be consistent with the spirit and intent of the sign code," staff told the commission.
Kim and Christina Johnson, the co-owners, said they appreciated staff assistance during the permitting process. Kim Johnson invited commissioners to the shop's grand opening: "We'd like to invite you all to our grand opening. It's Saturday, October 25," she said.
Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the sign variance with the four staff conditions.
Ending: The Dragonfly Bookshop may install the approved sign after completing any required permits; staff will confirm compliance with the four conditions listed in the staff report.
