Mayor proclaims July 2025 Parks and Recreation Month; department outlines July events including July 26 community program

Mayor Timothy A. Davis on July 3 read a proclamation declaring July 2025 as Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Temple and encouraged residents to use local parks and recreation resources.

The mayor—s proclamation highlighted the role of parks and recreation in quality of life, public health, economic and environmental benefits and ecosystem services. It noted a U.S. House resolution designating July as Parks and Recreation Month and concluded: "I, Timothy A. Davis, mayor of the city of Temple, Texas, do hereby proclaim the month of July 2025 as parks and recreation month in the city of Temple, Texas, and I encourage all citizens to get out and enjoy our local parks and recreation areas." The proclamation was read into the record and signed.

Parks and Recreation staff then came forward to outline activities planned throughout July. Department staff announced a month-long schedule of events and highlighted a new program, Play the Temple Way, scheduled for Saturday, July 26 at Santa Fe Plaza where divisions and community groups will showcase programs and services. Parks staff introduced several staff members by name during the meeting, including David Milas (development manager), Jeff Ward (golf course general manager), Lee Bullock (parks division director), Gary Kozel and Donald Lapointe (parks foremen), Mike Mayfield and Susan Krause (recreation division directors), Clarice Free (aquatics manager), and program coordinators listed in the presentation.

Council members thanked parks and other public-safety staff for event support, specifically referencing the fireworks and holiday operations.

The proclamation and the department—s presentation do not require a separate council vote; they were presented and entered into the council record on July 3.
