Exchange Club marks Child Abuse Awareness Month with 2,075-flag field in Stafford

Members of the National Exchange Club set a field of flags in Stafford this April to mark Child Abuse Awareness Month, the broadcast said, placing 2,075 white stakes with blue ribbons to represent children treated for abuse and neglect in the community last year.
An Exchange Club representative explained the number shown in the display and noted that those are only the cases known to local agencies: “The 2,075 white stakes with blue ribbons you see here in this awareness field represent 2,075 children treated for abuse and neglect in our community just last year. Those are the children that we know about. Most never tell of their abuse and neglect. The current thinking is that we actually know of as few as 1 in 3 and possibly as few as 1 in 10 children still suffering in silence,” the speaker said.
The representative described prevention as the Exchange Club’s national project and said local partners in Fort Bend County work on related services; the speaker invited community members to learn more and to consider joining local Exchange Club chapters via nationalexchangeclub.org.
The segment stressed outreach and prevention work rather than new policy or funding announcements. It also noted the Exchange Club’s view that child abuse prevention requires collaboration among local organizations and volunteers.
