Supervisor Walton urges Port and homelessness department not to close Pier 94 RV site; introduces resolution

Supervisor Walton introduced a resolution on May 2 urging the Port of San Francisco, the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (DHSH) and other agencies not to close the Pier 94 RV site in Bayview Hunters Point without a plan for where more than 100 people who have used the site would go.
Walton said the site was opened during the pandemic with support from the governor’s office and city agencies and provided on-site showers, restrooms, medical and behavioral-health services, two meals a day, electricity, laundry, shuttle service and connections to housing. She said the site had produced permanent housing connections for 37 guests over three years and at the time of her remarks had 18 guests across 14 units.
"This is forcing homelessness by our very own city departments. This is a travesty," Walton said, urging the Port and DHSH "not to allow this massive forced homelessness action."
Walton said Pier 94 was chosen for utilities, land management capability and location in a community with historically disadvantaged residents; she asked the Port and DHSH to work with the board and community on transition planning before any closure.
The item was introduced for consideration and co‑sponsored by Supervisors Ronan, Preston, Peskin and Safaie; no final vote on placement or funding was taken at the May 2 meeting.
