Supervisor Campos proposes $2.5M mid‑market nonprofit aid supplemental and a resolution on prescription drug pricing

Supervisor Campos introduced two items at Tuesday’s meeting: a proposed $2,500,000 general‑fund supplemental to assist nonprofits affected by rising commercial rents in the Mid‑Market tax exclusion zone, and a resolution backing city efforts to reduce prescription drug prices and increase transparency.

Campos said the supplemental would be funded by property‑tax increases expected from new development in the Mid‑Market area; the funds would be directed to the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) and the working group Campos described would recommend programmatic uses such as rent subsidies, displacement assistance, capital improvements, or property acquisition to stabilize nonprofits providing social services.

On drug pricing, Campos introduced a resolution in response to Proposition D, passed by city voters, directing the city to use available tools to reduce prescription costs and to ask state and federal officials for legislative reform. Campos noted that the Department of Public Health spends over $23,000,000 a year on pharmaceuticals for its patient populations and referenced federal programs such as the 340B drug‑pricing program, while noting prior state and federal legislative efforts to increase pricing transparency had stalled.
