Board passes first reading on India Basin Industrial Park zoning changes

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on March 3 to pass on first reading two companion ordinances that reclassify land in and around the India Basin Industrial Park and create an India Basin Industrial Park Special Use District.
The first ordinance would amend the Planning Code to change the use classification of certain parcels from M-1 and M-2 manufacturing designations to PDR-1B and PDR-2, aligning permitted uses with production, distribution and repair activities. The second ordinance would add a new Planning Code section creating the India Basin Industrial Park Special Use District to incorporate the subject parcels and apply tailored development standards.
Supervisor Daley called for a roll-call vote and the measures passed on first reading by an 11-0 vote. Supporters said the rezoning is intended to preserve industrial and maritime-related jobs while providing clearer use rules for the area; no opponents appeared in the board discussion at this meeting.
Both ordinances now proceed to the required second reading and any required environmental and administrative follow-up before becoming final. The board recorded the votes and moved to the next agenda item.
