Board approves $1 million appropriation from Children's Fund; controller says $779,000 from General Fund reserve

The Board of Supervisors on Jan. 9 adopted an ordinance appropriating $1,000,000 from the Children’s Fund to the Department of Children, Youth and Their Families for fiscal year 2006–07.
During debate Supervisor Jake McGoldrick asked how much remained of the general fund reserve after the supplemental appropriation. Monique Smuta of the Controller’s Office told the board the appropriation draws $1,000,000 from the Children’s Fund and $779,000 from the General Fund Reserve; she said the general fund reserve has been depleted by a little over $1 million in the current year, including this supplemental appropriation.
Several supervisors spoke in support of the appropriation as prevention-focused spending. The roll call vote showed 10 ayes and 1 no; the clerk announced the ordinance is finally passed.
What happens next: The Department of Children, Youth and Their Families will receive the appropriation and implement programs as authorized. The Controller’s Office indicated the action reduces the general fund reserve and staff said they would provide an exact remaining reserve figure if requested.
