Brandy Grady, the district library media coordinator, told the committee the district seeks $75,825 to buy a set of 30 Chromebooks for each of five elementary libraries that have not yet received device updates this school year. Grady said five other elementary buildings were updated last year and these five are next in the rotation. She said Common School Funds are constitutionally derived funds that must be used for library-specific items and that the district received approximately $446,000 in the most recent distribution.
Grady described how library Chromebooks are used for occasional lab activities, loaner devices for testing, and to provide a device when middle‑school students occasionally forget theirs at home. Committee members asked about warranty and insurance. Administrators confirmed the procurement includes a five‑year warranty and that staff will clarify warranty coverage in the board materials.
A committee amendment clarified the purchase is 30 devices per building for five elementary schools (150 devices total) and the motion to recommend the Chromebook purchase to the full board carried unanimously.
The committee instructed staff to ensure board documents clarify device counts and warranty details before the full-board vote.
