Council directs county fire to acquire available tractor‑drawn aerial truck for Beaumont

The Beaumont City Council on April 15 authorized Riverside County Fire to proceed with acquisition of a completed tractor‑drawn aerial (TDA) ladder truck that became available after another jurisdiction decided not to take delivery.
County fire staff explained that the truck was originally ordered by Rowlett, Texas, but the ordering agency opted not to take delivery. The vendor and county compared the vehicle to Beaumont’s specifications; county staff reported it met required specifications with a handful of minor modifications (for example, changing some compartment doors and seat types and adjusting the light package from the vendor’s configuration). County and apparatus committee review concluded the truck was acceptable and would be deliverable much sooner than a newly ordered build.
Chief Deputy Jeff Pemberton and county fire staff said the truck would be delivered this fall (2025), roughly 14 months earlier than the delivery estimate for Beaumont’s existing order. Staff emphasized the county would negotiate terms and that the city would not incur an increase in the existing price approved by council when it previously authorized a tractor‑drawn aerial purchase.
Council members praised the opportunity to accelerate delivery. The council motion directing Riverside County Fire to proceed with acquisition carried on a roll call vote with all present voting yes.
County staff said additional minor modifications would be completed to meet Beaumont and county standards before the truck is placed in service. No immediate budget increase to the city was authorized at the meeting.
