The McKinney City Council approved a rezoning amendment to allow a Walmart store to host a Zipline drone delivery operation on site, after the applicant described safety systems, operational limits and early deployment plans.
Kate Strickland, planning manager, introduced the item and said staff recommended approval of the proposed plan development modification for the Walmart property. Ryan Trimble, a Walmart representative, and a Zipline representative described the proposal and answered council questions about operations and safety.
Ryan Trimble said the Walmart is among the first stores in the Dallas–Fort Worth area to propose the service and described initial use cases the company expects to offer.
