Forney council approves rezoning of nearly 14 acres to expand plan development for data center use

The Forney City Council on April 8 approved an ordinance rezoning approximately 13.997 acres south of U.S. Highway 80 into the same plan development overlay used by the adjacent Blue Ladder data-center plan development district.
Planning staff told the council the rezoning would allow the property to be developed under the exact standards already applied to the neighboring Blue Ladder (data center) Plan Development District and that the request did not conflict with the city’s comprehensive plan. Planning and Zoning recommended approval unanimously.
Councilmember Traylor moved to approve the rezoning and Councilmember Schlitzker seconded the motion. If approved, the measure was to be assigned Ordinance No. 2506; the council voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance.
Why this matters: The rezoning expands the area using data-center-oriented standards, effectively permitting data-center and other uses consistent with the established PD. The action formalizes zoning for a parcel that had previously received interest for light industrial or distribution uses but had been the subject of prior denials at the P&Z level.
