Kaufman County commissioners approved a professional services agreement with Westwood for schematic and environmental design work on FM 148, covering the roadway north of U.S. 175 to County Road 261. County staff said the agreement, valued at $2,620,000, will support planning aimed at widening a two-lane road to a four-lane divided facility to serve ongoing development.
Presenters told commissioners the corridor has multiple large developments planned or under construction and said the work will help manage traffic generated by that growth. County leaders said the city of Crandall had communicated support for moving the project forward.
Commissioners approved the agreement by voice vote. County staff said the design work will include schematic planning and environmental review necessary to pursue further right-of-way and construction funding steps.
