The Colleyville City Council on April 15 held a series of ceremonial recognitions and proclamations: the city was proclaimed a Purple Heart City, the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council (NCCTRAQ) presented a Heart Safe Community certificate, and Mayor Bobby Lindemood read a proclamation designating April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Eric Weed, vice commander of the DFW Mid-Cities chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a member of the city’s Heroes Park board, said he nominated Colleyville for the designation because of the city’s support for veterans. Lisa Holmes Lundswick, introduced as a surviving spouse and representative of the Combat Wounded Service Organization, said seeing the Purple Heart designation "gives us a warm feeling that you still care, and, so anyone with a Purple Heart will feel very welcome here." Mayor Lindemood then read and signed the proclamation declaring Colleyville a Purple Heart City.
Later, Melissa Kristen and Christina Gomez of the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council presented a Heart Safe Community certificate to the council. Kristen described the Heart Safe program as a nationwide initiative with six focus areas: access to emergency care; emergency medical dispatch; AED and first response; advanced life support; education and community awareness; and data collection and review. "This program requires a multidisciplinary collaboration and commitment of public and private agencies across the community," Kristen told the council, and congratulated Colleyville on meeting the program criteria.
Julie Evans, chief executive officer of Alliance for Children, spoke during the child abuse prevention proclamation. Evans described the organization as Colleyville’s children’s advocacy center and said it provides a multi-agency response for children who are victims of crime. The mayor read a proclamation noting that in Tarrant County 4,719 children were confirmed victims of abuse or neglect in 2023 and that Alliance for Children provided trauma-informed services to 3,025 children in 2024. The mayor urged citizens to work together to reduce child abuse and neglect.
All three recognitions were ceremonial; the council took photographs and distributed commemorative items. No council votes were required for the proclamations.
