Board approves vacation of two historic county road segments; county says properties retain access

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on April 15 approved a resolution vacating portions of County Road 77 and County Road 71, a board action county staff said will remove unneeded public encumbrances on affected parcels while preserving recorded private access and utility easements.
County Engineer Stacy Shetler told the board the segments date to 1880 and that property owners in the area have legal private access and utility easements that preserve access if the public right‑of‑way is removed. Shetler said adjacent property owners were notified per statute and that several owners contacted the county in support of the proposed vacation.
Public hearing
No speakers in the room or online asked to address the board on this item during the public hearing. Shetler told commissioners that staff received expressions of support from property owners and that there was no known opposition at the time of the hearing.
Board action and effect
The board voted to adopt the vacation resolution. County staff said the vacation removes unnecessary public encumbrances and is intended to clear title issues for property owners; recorded private access and utility easements will remain in place to protect service access.
