Pharr schedules seed library unveiling, Earth Day events and Paint the Park; volunteers needed

Scott (filling in for Remy) said the Farr Memorial Library will unveil a seed library on April 17 with guest speaker Robert Gaetan of the Plant Society of Texas, Rio Grande Valley chapter; the event will include a seed exchange and nature-themed activities.
Staff said on Thursday, April 24 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) the city will table at the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge Earth Day event in partnership with PSJA School District. On Friday (1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.) the city will present at a Careers and Conservation workshop hosted by the refuge; that program is aimed at college students interested in conservation careers. The city will also host a Paint the Park Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, April 25 (08:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.), including a native-tree seedling giveaway, a planting presentation by the Forest Service, exhibitors, vendors and a Paint the Park contest; volunteers were requested to judge the contest.
Staff asked board members to share event flyers and to help recruit volunteers. No formal board action was taken; the presentation was informational.
