At its April 15 meeting, the City of Victorville City Council introduced Jerry Davenport as the city's new police captain. City Manager Keith Metzler said Capt. Davenport, a 27-year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, will join the Victorville Police Department on May 3 and will sit at the dais with council at public meetings.
The council also held its quarterly recognition of new hires and promotions across departments, with staff presentations from Human Resources Officer Heather Barber and Assistant Human Resources Director Sandra Bostick. New hires called forward included employees in recreation, fire, human resources and finance; multiple promotions across public works, code compliance, building and airport departments were also recognized during the meeting.
Separately, Mayor Elizabeth Becerra read a proclamation declaring April 2025 Child Abuse Prevention Month in the City of Victorville. Juan Solis, father engagement coordinator for the Children's Network of San Bernardino County, accepted the proclamation and urged community awareness and reporting of suspected abuse. The proclamation text cited county referral statistics for 2024 and described planned awareness activities including a blue ribbon media campaign and an award ceremony.
Councilmembers and staff welcomed Capt. Davenport and thanked employees recognized at the ceremony.
