Norwalk Transit staff reported to the City Council on April 15 that the department's team won the overall championship at the 2025 5‑Star Bus Rodeo, a skills competition among regional transit operators.
Transit staff member Jim Parker said the rodeo included teams from Culver City, Gardena, Long Beach Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, Torrance Transit and Norwalk Transit. Parked team members Miguel Calderon and Robert Nunez were invited to the dais; Parker noted Miguel Calderon placed first among the Norwalk team and the overall team earned the grand championship trophy.
In a separate staff report, the city played a video summarizing its first hiring fair for summer employment in recreation and aquatics. The video said roughly 150 applicants were interviewed onsite; staff described the process as an efficient way to hire for roles such as Recreation Leader I/II and aquatics positions. The hiring fair included on‑the‑spot interviews and swim tests for aquatics candidates. City staff thanked Human Resources and Parks & Recreation for organizing the event and reported some candidates received job offers during the fair.
City leadership framed both items as examples of staff achievements and efficient local hiring practices. There was no council action required on either report.
