Calistoga council authorizes Native Sons lease for Tucker East Room at fairgrounds

The Calistoga City Council voted unanimously on April 15 to authorize a two-year license agreement with Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor 86 to use the Tucker East Room at the Calistoga Fairgrounds.
Fairgrounds Revitalization Director Shelley Wright presented the agreement and said Native Sons offered to pay $6,000 up front for two years of scheduled use and that the space provides cupboards for storage of the group's supplies. Wright credited local volunteers and PG&E with recent repairs at Tucker and said the building's electrical connections had been restored.
A member of Native Sons, Kuykendall, told the council the group has met in several locations in Calistoga and called returning to the Tucker Room a “homecoming.” Susan Shaw, representing another service organization, asked that other clubs also be allowed access and that rental options accommodate groups that meet a few times per month.
Council members asked practical questions about rental scheduling and building use; Wright said the room can be rented by hour or by day, and that the city's rental schedule lists separate rates for a meeting-room use. Council Member Gift and others said having a stable home for service clubs reduced their logistical burden.
Council Member Gift and Council Member Eisenberg raised building maintenance issues. Gift said she noticed possible rodent contamination and urged cleaning of ventilation and heating systems before regular use by elderly or other vulnerable attendees; Wright said duct cleaning had not been scheduled and that filters had not been changed for the hurried recent meeting. A volunteer offer to donate a toilet was also mentioned.
Council Member Eisenberg moved to accept the contract with Native Sons for use of the Tucker East Room; Vice Mayor Lopez Ortega seconded. A roll call recorded unanimous approval: Mayor Williams, Vice Mayor Lopez Ortega, Council Member Gift, Council Member Cooper and Council Member Eisenberg all voted aye.
The council said returning community clubs to the Tucker Room is an important step in revitalizing the fairgrounds while staff continues work on other facility repairs and the broader fairgrounds plan.
