Cumberland County board debates rebalancing teacher salary scale; cost estimates range from about $200,000 to $700,000 depending on approach

Board members of the Cumberland County Board of Education spent the meeting’s largest block of time reviewing proposed changes to the certified salary scale and options for phasing or freezing higher-degree steps.

The discussion centered on two goals: make the district’s salary trajectory more “balanced” across degree levels and avoid creating or aggravating pay compression between classroom teachers and supervisory positions.
