The Mustang Public Schools Board approved a contract with Stoltz Telecom to purchase and install a districtwide digital radio system.
Staff described the project as a significant security and operations upgrade: replacing analog radios on buses with digital units, adding an additional repeater (noted for placement near a water tower) to improve coverage, and installing base stations and handheld radios in every school and operations facilities. Staff said the project was funded in part by a COPS grant the district wrote and received.
Staff emphasized that the system will allow reliable district-wide communications, enable direct radio contact with buses at any time, and reduce reliance on cellular networks that can become congested during large events.
The board approved the contract by voice vote. Staff will proceed with equipment installation and coordinate grant reporting and milestones.
