Zoning commission approves consent docket and several individual rezonings, sends items to City Council

The City of San Antonio Zoning Commission approved a multi-item consent docket and several individual rezoning requests during a regularly noticed meeting called to order by Chair John Bustamante. Commissioner Taylor Watson moved to approve the consent items as amended; Commissioner Marco Barros seconded, and the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all commissioners voting in favor.

The consent docket included items 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 201, 202, 205, 206, 207 and 30. Item 7 (2456 Cincinnati Avenue) was amended on the record to R4CD with a conditional use for three dwelling units; the applicant confirmed the amendment. Item 26 (3625 West Avenue) also was amended and approved on the consent docket as read into the record. The commission noted public comments received on several consent items, including voice mails in support of the large-area rezoning case listed as item 9 and support for Warehouse 5 (item 30).

Separately, the commission approved two individual items that had presentations and staff recommendations: Item 3 (rezoning at FM 1560 North to C2CD to allow a sound and recording studio) was approved with conditions including restricted hours of operation (Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.) and no outdoor speakers. Item 4 (17910 Bulverde Road) was approved to allow a craft brewery as a conditional use; staff recommended approval and there were no public objections.

Commission discussion stressed that commission recommendations move to City Council for final action. Chair Bustamante said, "If you were present for any of the items that were just read, those have been approved and are moving on to city council." The commission recorded a unanimous roll call approving the consent motion and the individual items noted above.

The commission also announced that items 1, 2 and 10 (on Pine, Heath and Troy) were withdrawn or postponed and would be rescheduled; affected property owners will receive new notices.
