DSAC asks staff to break out aggregated Benton County Talks Trash comments in 2022 concerns report

The Disposal Site Advisory Committee reviewed a draft 2022 Community Concerns annual report on Oct. 9 and requested county staff separate comments that had been aggregated under a single entry for the Benton County Talks Trash (BCTT) process so the report's tables and pie chart more accurately reflect the number and topics of community submissions.
Committee members said that one line in the report (row 59) aggregates the BCTT submissions, which span many meetings and include dozens of distinct comments. Several members said the aggregation distorts the report's totals and the pie chart that summarizes complaint categories. "It is an issue of fairness," one member said, noting that comments submitted to BCTT were treated differently in the draft than individual comments submitted directly to DSAC or other channels.
Staff member Bailey said the BCTT items are available in the BCTT report and that the data could be imported into the community‑concerns table. Members asked staff to break out those entries, update the pie chart and supporting text, and make the corrected draft available to the committee. Bailey committed to preparing the revised material and, if it required more time, to provide it by the January meeting.
The committee also suggested minor edits for clarity in the draft report — for example, correcting a misspelling of the Adair Rural Fire Department and standardizing how responses are described in the table — but kept the focus on unaggregating the BCTT comments so totals and charts reflect each submission. No formal vote was taken Oct. 9; staff will return a revised draft for committee review.
