Benton County staff announced the hiring of an OSU graduate student to work as a GIS intern on the county’s CLG (Certified Local Government) project to update the historic-resources database and produce an interactive story map.
Staff indicated the intern, identified in the meeting as Andreas (OSU master’s student), began work recently and is front-loading time during OSU’s academic breaks to accelerate the project. Staff said the goal is to complete the database update by mid‑June to align with the academic calendar and to produce a story-map interface (an Esri product) that will provide interactive access to mapped heritage points and related material. The story map is intended to complement the static driving-tour booklet by offering an online, interactive layer for users to zoom, click and view images and event information.
Commissioners asked whether content could be exported or otherwise provided in a format compatible with Google Maps for broader public use; staff said the intern will plot tour points on a map and staff will investigate whether the data can be exported for Google Maps or other widely used platforms.
