Council approves modest landfill rate increase effective July 1

The Le Mars City Council on April 15 approved Resolution 25-16, which updates the city’s fee schedule to increase several landfill rates effective July 1, 2025.
The changes include raising the residential material rate and the furniture rate from $61 per ton to $63 per ton. City administration said the rates appear on the city’s list of fees, licenses and charges and that the update either had been missed or arrived after the fee list was prepared.
“Administration recommends council acknowledgment of the rates and approval by resolution,” a staff member told the council. The change will be recorded in the calendar year 2025 list of fees.
A motion to adopt Resolution 25-16 was seconded and the council approved the resolution by roll call. Councilmembers Pick, Brands, Sturgeon, Goodchild and Witt were recorded as voting yes and the mayor announced the motion carried.
Officials said the adjustment is a routine annual update to keep fees current; no additional policy changes were discussed at the meeting.
