The Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen on April 14 approved a temporary on-premise beer sales permit for the Down Syndrome Association of Memphis & the Mid-South to hold its "Get Down in Derby" fundraiser at the Great Hall and Conference Center on Saturday, May 3, from 3 to 10 p.m.
Clerk Betty explained that the organization provided an application and public hearing notice, and that, per city ordinance, background checks are not required for temporary beer permits sought by bona fide charitable or nonprofit organizations. The clerk said the association submitted its IRS 501(c)(3) certificate and state authorization for a nonprofit special-occasion permit.
Alderman Scott Sanders moved approval and described the documentation on file, including two licensed servers from the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Alderman Yulicki seconded. The clerk called the roll and aldermen voted in favor, granting the permit.
No public comments were made during the public-hearing portion of the item. The permit covers on-premise consumption at the Great Hall and Conference Center, 1900 South Germantown Road, on May 3 from 3–10 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the association's programs.
