Board approves Bayside Cove plat and multiple interim use permits for aggregate mining and hot-mix plants

Meeker County commissioners on April 15 approved a two-lot final plat in Kingston Township and several interim use permits (IUPs) for gravel mining and portable hot-mix plants in multiple townships.

Line-Use Director Greg Schultz presented the Bayside Cove final plat (two lots) in Kingston Township. The board approved the final plat application for Bayside Cove at Parcel 13-1-5000 located in Government Lot 1 of Section 11, Township 120 Range 29; the motion was made and carried by voice vote.

The board approved a pair of interim use permits for aggregate mining and a portable hot-mix plant in Dassel Township. Commissioner Samke moved to approve a six-year IUP (number 16577) for aggregate mining and processing, and a three-year IUP (number 16578) for a hot-mix plant at the parcel described in the Northeast Quarter of Section 4, Township 119 Range 29; the motion was seconded and approved.

Schultz then presented a renewal of permits for a site in Ellsworth Township known as the Rognis Pit. The board approved a six-year IUP (number 16575) for aggregate mining and processing at Parcel 8234000 in the Northwest Quarter of Section 18, Township 118 Range 30, and a three-year IUP (16576) for a hot-mix plant at the same property.

Separately, the board approved a six-year interim use permit renewal for aggregate mining at a site applied for by Craig Reiner (renewal of IUP 15036) in Ellsworth Township; the motion passed by voice vote.

Schultz and commissioners discussed statutory tools to verify gravel tax payments and noted local concerns about accurate reporting; the board added a condition allowing revocation of an IUP if a business refused an auditor's request for business records in extreme cases. All land-use motions were approved by voice vote.
