Chair Skip announced at the April 15 meeting of the Dare County Board of Elections that he will resign from the board effective June 1.
"I wanted to let the board know that next month's meeting will be my last meeting, and I'll be withdrawing and resigning from the board effective... June 1," the chair said. He stressed there was no controversy surrounding the decision and called his service "an absolute profound honor".
Board members offered personal remarks of appreciation. One board member said, "I'm very saddened to hear that you're leaving. You add so much to this process." Another board member thanked the chair for educating the public about the board’s work and for fostering collegiality.
During routine business earlier in the meeting, the board considered and approved the minutes for the previous meeting as corrected. A motion to approve the minutes was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board’s next regularly scheduled meeting was announced as May 20. The chair said he will have more to say at a later date about his resignation and thanked the staff and fellow board members for their service.
