The Ellis County Commission approved use of opioid settlement funds to reimburse travel expenses for Timothy Beck to provide fentanyl and opioid overdose death investigation training in Ellis County.
Sheriff Scott Brown told the commission the training — typically costing about $400 per person — was being donated by the trainer's employer, and the county's request was limited to travel, lodging and meal reimbursement of about $801.62. Detective Brian Shannon assembled the training, Brown said, and the course will be open to deputies, first responders and other law enforcement who want to attend.
Brown said Beck will travel from Las Vegas and that the county would cover related travel expenses; he also said if expenses exceed the estimate he would cover any overage so the county would not need to return to the commission. Commissioners approved the reimbursement by voice vote, 3-0.
Sheriff Brown described the course as helpful to first responders and detectives for recognizing contaminated scenes and coordinating investigations.
