Sierra Vista Unified honors January PBIS staff members for promoting safe, respectful, responsible schools

The Sierra Vista Unified School District presented its January 2025 PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) staff-of-the-month recognitions during the governing board meeting.
Nicole Parker, the district’s Safe and Healthy Students coordinator, presented a prerecorded overview of PBIS and said the district teaches expectations of “be safe, be respectful, and be responsible” and reinforces staff and student behavior through a point system. "Every staff member on all of our campuses teaches students what it looks like to be safe, respectful, and responsible at school each day," Parker said in the prepared remarks.
District administrators said the PBIS program recognizes three staff members monthly for exemplifying one of the expectations. At the meeting, the district presented certificates for January to Deborah Harris (recognized for creating a safe library environment at the middle school), Dawn Wolfslegel (recognized for respect; not present), and Paula Blanchard (recognized for responsibility in the front office at Huachuca Mountain). One recipient was not present but the district said the certificate would be delivered.
Why it matters District officials said PBIS supports campus culture and relationship-building, noting staff recognition is part of reinforcing the behaviors the district seeks from students and adults. The district will provide a digital badge staff can add to their email signatures and will honor recipients at a future board meeting.
