Shelton officials approve school bus stop-arm ordinance after prior public hearing

Shelton municipal officials voted to adopt an ordinance establishing a school bus stop-arm program and enforcement during a regular meeting. The agenda noted a public hearing on the ordinance had been held on March 25.

The ordinance, approved by voice vote, directs that the ordinance be published in summary form with the full text made available for review in the office of the town clerk. The motion to approve the ordinance was moved and seconded on the floor before members voted "Aye" and the chair announced the motion carried.

The ordinance drew public comment earlier in the meeting about school bus operations and safety. A resident urged the town to install cameras on school buses, saying, "You're going to install cameras in the school buses. I understand the state's paying for that," and suggested locating drop-off points closer to students' homes and adding bike racks. That comment appeared during the public-comment portion of the meeting and was not part of the formal ordinance text or the subsequent vote.

The board's action completes the local vote following the March 25 public hearing; the ordinance summary and a full copy will be available at the town clerk's office as directed in the motion.
