Commissioners asked whether stricter measures used in some cities — for example requiring on‑lot French drains or retention to hold runoff to a defined event — could be adopted for subdivisions or smaller lots.
County staff and a county attorney noted limits on what the county can do administratively versus what requires regulation changes; the county engineer’s review is required for new development and engineering requirements can be increased on the front end. Several commissioners asked staff to research whether additional stormwater controls used in nearby urban areas might be appropriate and what legal and cost implications would be involved.
No regulatory changes were adopted at the meeting; staff said they would review current stormwater requirements and report back.
