Kennett reports steady progress on Greenwood and New Garden elementary construction; projects on schedule

The Kennett Consolidated School District provided a facilities update on April 14 detailing construction progress at the two new elementary schools and a list of high‑school campus improvements.

Facilities staff reported the projects are on schedule. At the high school, central maintenance and contractor Trium removed the old lighting panel and rerouted circuits for new LED fixtures in a TV studio; an exterior outlet for a new auditorium projector was installed; and new flat‑panel LEDs were scheduled for a third‑floor hallway and steps lighting for the Reynolds Gym.

At Greenwood Elementary workations are organized into areas A–E. Central maintenance reported excavation for underground plumbing and electrical trenching continuing in multiple areas; area A floor slab and electric/data conduit were poured and installed; area B slab and masonry work continue; window and roofing work were underway; and playground mulch was added across the front field (previously only around equipment). The purchase orders for kilns at both Greenwood and New Garden were received and procurement is planned for late September.

At New Garden Elementary, spray‑foam insulation and concrete walls for areas C and D are complete; stair installation, electrical panels and interior conduit are in progress; framing and duct runs continue on upper floors; and the roofing system and window installation are proceeding. Site‑work trenching and sanitary installs were also described as active.

Facilities staff confirmed both projects remain on time. Board members praised the visible improvements—one director cited positive community feedback about Greenwood’s new mulch—and asked a few clarifying operational questions about the sequencing of remaining trades.

What happens next: Central maintenance and project contractors will continue electrical, plumbing and masonry phases through spring break and beyond; administration said purchase orders for remaining equipment will be issued according to the project schedule.
