Board actions at a glance: agenda adoption, mentoring partnership, math curriculum adoption, activities association membership and executive session

At the April 14 meeting the Huron Board of Education recorded several unanimous formal actions. Below are each action, the motion as recorded in the meeting, and the roll-call outcomes.

Adopt agenda Motion: "With those changes, I would entertain a motion to adopt the agenda." (motion moved and seconded) Outcome: Passed unanimously on roll call (Cardona, Lee, Bischoff, Simmons, Van Bercum all voted aye).

Teammates mentoring program approval Motion: Approve the district’s participation in the Teammates mentoring program and authorize next steps, including formation of a local teammates board and fundraising to support a local program. Outcome: Passed unanimously on roll call (Cardona, Lee, Bischoff, Simmons, Van Bercum all voted aye).

Math curriculum adoption Motion: Approve recommended math curricula for the 2025–26 school year: Savvas enVision for middle and high school and McGraw Hill Reveal for elementary (presented by the curriculum staff). Outcome: Passed unanimously on roll call (Cardona, Lee, Bischoff, Simmons, Van Bercum all voted aye).

South Dakota High School Activities Association membership resolution Motion: Approve annual resolution authorizing continued membership in the South Dakota High School Activities Association. Outcome: Passed unanimously on roll call (Cardona, Lee, Bischoff, Simmons, Van Bercum all voted aye).

Executive session: contract negotiations Motion: Enter executive session in accordance with South Dakota Codified Law 1-25-2(4) for contract negotiations. Outcome: Board voted unanimously to go into executive session (Cardona, Lee, Bischoff, Simmons, Van Bercum all voted aye). The board recessed briefly and stayed in the meeting room for the executive session.
