The Huron Board of Education unanimously approved its consent agenda, which included personnel actions, vendor bids, vehicle purchases, building-system contracts and a grant application to the South Dakota Department of Education.
The consent agenda -- which the chair described as “lengthy” and asked the board to approve in a single motion -- certified 16 new hires and five resignations requiring board approval. The resignations listed in the packet included: Mike Postma (part-time welding instructor, will continue to coach football), Kathy Bostrom (law and public safety teacher, two years of service), Anne Sudbeck Malsam (food service at Madison Satellite, two years), Tanner Sporer (ninth-grade football coach, two years) and Jim Noyes (assistant varsity boys basketball coach, three years).
Contracts and procurement items approved in the consent motion included: a variable-pricing milk and dairy bid from Avera PACE for the 2025–26 school year; a fuel-discount bid from MG Oil (15-cent discount on E10 blend gasoline and 12-cent discount on diesel for 2025–26); a low 10-cent discount bid received from DJ’s Bridal Center and Stern Oil Company; acceptance of a bid from North Central Bus and Equipment to purchase two school buses for $279,902; and a contract with Howe Incorporated for middle-school boiler replacement in the amount of $398,600.
The board also approved an agreement with Core Educational Cooperative and accepted a grant application prepared by Jolene Konechnie to the South Dakota Department of Education for a literacy-improvement grant, described in the board packet as $775,000 per year for four years. The board declared a 1984 IH 540 wheel loader surplus and authorized it for online auction.
The motion to approve the full consent agenda passed unanimously on a roll-call vote.
The board noted that individual items from the consent agenda could have been pulled for separate discussion but were approved together after no member requested additional discussion.
