Greeley-Evans School District 6 approves purchase of Evans property for possible future school site

The Board of Education of Greeley-Evans School District 6 approved a property purchase contract and first amendment for a parcel at 435030 Seventh Street, Evans, Colorado 80620 and authorized Chief Financial Officer Megan Sponsler to sign related documents on behalf of the board.
Dr. Brenda Pilch, the district superintendent, told the board the parcel was discussed in executive session under the district—s authority to meet on real estate and described it as large enough to be a future high school site or a combined site. Pilch said the City of Evans supports the purchase because the acquisition aligns with planned street and road work in the area.
"This is the property we spoke to you all about in Evans, which would be a possible future school site," Pilch said. She said the district plans to use reserve funds for the one-time purchase and characterized that use of reserves as appropriate.
A motion to approve the purchase and authorize the CFO to sign related documents carried 5-0. The board recorded the following votes: Director Azari, aye; Director Campos Pizzi, aye; President Natalie Mash, aye; Director Matthews, aye; Director Sullivan, aye.
Board members noted that they had discussed related questions during a prior executive session and that the acquisition is intended to be a one-time use of reserves rather than an ongoing operating expense.
