District recognizes PBIS employees of the month; board sets town hall and consolidation timetable

The Sierra Vista Unified School District recognized three staff members as PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) employees of the month and the governing board reviewed several upcoming public events and meeting dates, including a town hall and a planned vote on consolidation.

Interim Superintendent Terry Romo told the board about recent school activities: a principal’s advisory council listening session, senior nights at Buena High School, Halloween and Red Ribbon Week events at elementary schools, and upcoming school carnivals and book fairs. Romo said the principal’s advisory council included student representatives from freshmen through seniors and that staff will repeat the listening activity because it was well received.

At the presentation, the district PBIS team recognized staff members for September: Marnie Golding at Buena High School for exemplary safety response during a student medical emergency; Lori Humphreys for leadership and peer support, including morning math tutoring and classroom technology assistance; and Alfredo Cotto for engaging instruction and positive behavior reinforcement. PBIS presenter Michelle Warner said the district PBIS team "is honored to recognize staff members each month who consistently demonstrate SVSD's expectations for being safe, respectful, and responsible." The recognitions were ceremonial and no board action was required.

Separately, board leadership noted a special meeting and an upcoming town hall; the town hall is an opportunity for public input and the board indicated a consolidation vote is scheduled for Nov. 18 unless membership votes to change the date. A work session to review town hall input will be scheduled in the weeks between the town hall and the Nov. 18 meeting. A public commenter invited attendees to join a voluntary pre- and post‑meeting prayer group in the lobby; the board did not take action on that comment.
