Johnson County approves $3,000 contribution for downtown Franklin holiday lighting

The Johnson County Board of Commissioners voted to contribute $3,000 to Discover Downtown Franklin to support the group’s downtown holiday lighting event on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025.
The request was presented at the Oct. 13 meeting by Danny Causey, executive director of Discover Downtown Franklin, who said the event will use the same contractor as prior years and that organizers do not plan changes to activities on county property. "The event will be on Saturday, December 6. I hope everybody comes out and has a great time," Causey said.
Commissioners discussed logistics briefly, including scaffolding currently on the courthouse roof. Causey told the board scaffolding removal is expected around Nov. 1. A commissioner moved to contribute $3,000; a second was recorded and the motion passed with the affirmative voice vote of the board.
Discover Downtown Franklin has previously worked with contractor My Guy Services and said this year’s installation of lights on city property is already underway. Causey also said Festival Country has partnered on sponsorships in past years but did not provide a major cash contribution for this year.
The contribution will fund traditional street and tree lighting in downtown Franklin; county officials said no county grounds alterations are planned. The board took the vote during the public comment portion of its Oct. 13 regular meeting.
