Campos said the task force would review legislation he has drafted that would allow housing inspectors to cite building owners when fire alarm systems are out of date, require apartment building owners to post signs informing residents of the right to file anonymous fire‑safety complaints, and expand the scope of fire investigations.
Supervisor Campos attributed the proposal to a string of recent fires, saying they had caused "three tragic deaths in the last few months" and the displacement of dozens of families and small businesses in the Mission District. He asked colleagues to co‑sponsor the ordinance and thanked staff working on the item.
No formal vote on the ordinance was recorded on the April 28 transcript; Campos introduced the measure as new business for future consideration by the board.
