Policy committee proposes edits on personnel injury, workplace violence and removes duplicate recruitment policies

The policy committee presented recommended changes to personnel policies and placed several items on first reading.

Committee coordinator Mrs. Keith proposed amending policy GAC (staff job-related injury) to add an explicit reference to assaults in the title and body. The committee also recommended removing GAEB and merging its contents into GAC to avoid duplication.

Policy GAF (workplace violence) was presented for first reading with expanded language describing prohibited conduct, an explicit list of examples and a note that district property is subject to inspection for enforcement. Members suggested language changes for clarity: adding "social media" to examples of threatening statements and using gender-neutral pronouns ("they") rather than repeated "he/she" constructions. Board members also asked a technical edit to avoid attributing employment supervision to the board rather than the district ("the district" should be used where the draft said "the board").

Committee staff recommended removing GBBA (selection/recruitment of professional personnel) from the policy book because its content is encompassed by policy GBC (selection and recruitment of professional personnel/certification).

All proposed edits will move forward as first-reading items and return for final action following the district's policy-review process.
