Cornwall-Lebanon board honors student achievements, community partners

At its April 14 meeting the Cornwall-Lebanon School District board heard a series of student and community recognitions, including a student-council report, national broadcast awards, American Heart Association fundraising totals, first-year girls-wrestling successes and multiple student-of-the-year presentations.
The Cornwall-Lebanon School District Board of School Directors on April 14 held a presentations segment that highlighted student leadership, statewide and national contests, and community partnerships.
Student council representative Noah Benson told the board that Region F’s April 4 conference drew 22 schools and more than 350 students and included workshops and a donation drive that collected “370 different bags to help our homeless people in the area.” Benson said the group organized the conference on a shortened timeline and called the result “a very impressive feat for us.”
Molly Emrick, youth marketing manager for the American Heart Association, told the board the district collectively raised $167,620 for the association through school activities, and that four district schools placed in the state’s top 12 for their fundraising. “The district itself…have raised an amazing $167,620 for our mission,” Emrick said.
Cody Hassler, Cedar Crest High School’s broadcast video and film instructor, introduced students who won 17 national awards in video contests and showed a compilation of recent work. “It’s not about winning…it’s about pushing creative boundaries, and more importantly, building confidence, friendships, leadership, and understanding,” Hassler said.
Benjamin Stum presented results from the district’s inaugural girls wrestling season and recognized two freshmen who qualified for regionals; Stum said one freshman had a 26–5 record and was a sectional champion and tournament outstanding wrestler. John Mahn, enrichment facilitator at South Lebanon Elementary, announced that student Cecilia Pulvino won second place in Pennsylvania’s Litter Hawk Youth Award program and that her poster was on display at the State Capitol through April 30.
Other recognitions included Mackenzie Minnick’s nomination as Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce Rising Leader; Jill House receiving an Emerging Young Leader honor; and student-of-the-year awards at Cornwall Elementary, Ebenezer Elementary and other schools. Students and families were invited to the dais for brief remarks and to receive plaques.
The presentations portion concluded with Superintendent Dr. Domenic noting the many recognitions and reminding the community about upcoming events and kindergarten registration.
Board members and administrators repeatedly thanked students, families and staff for their work and attendance.
