Board tables approval of four girls‑basketball coaching recommendations after parent concerns

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. — The Franklin County Community School Corporation board on April 14 voted to table final approval of four recommended girls‑basketball coaching positions — the head coach and three assistant coaches — after at least one board member said she had received parent concerns and wanted more time to review.

Brandi Wilson made a motion to table the four hires until the next regular meeting so board members could “have a little bit more information” and speak with parents; the motion carried 5‑1. The superintendent told the board his recommendation remained in favor of the four candidates, saying he had reviewed vetting materials and had “0 holdback in recommending them now.”

Superintendent Dustin Gehring said the athletic director and principal had used established criteria in bringing recommendations to the board and that he stood by the recommendations, but he acknowledged the board’s duty to evaluate them. "My recommendation is that we move forward with these 4 individuals," he said during the meeting.

Board members discussed procedural options including separating the head coach vote from the assistants or tabling the entire set. The motion to table followed a recorded request from a board member to speak with parents and others before acting; the board agreed to reconsider the hires at the next meeting. The superintendent and athletic director were asked to provide any requested additional information to board members before that meeting.

The board did not vote on the individual hires at the April 14 meeting; the item remains on the agenda for the next regular meeting pending staff follow‑up.
