Board splits preschool and childcare handbooks after state desk‑audit recommendation

Staff described the desk‑audit process and said they rewrote the two handbooks from scratch to align with DHS questions and IQPS expectations.
Board members and staff discussed a requested wording change to the "items to keep at home" list; staff said they would amend the handbook language to say the list "includes, but is not limited to" so building staff can make reasonable determinations about new or unexpected items such as pepper spray. Staff also confirmed that asbestos notifications were included in the district handbook and attached to building handbooks.
The board approved the handbooks "as discussed," with staff instructed to apply the small final edits and to update the document year, then publish the handbooks for parent distribution.
