The Indianola Community School District Board of Education voted unanimously to approve revised handbooks for certified staff and associates and to adopt updates to the Meet and Confer handbook, the board said during its meeting.
Board members said the handbook committees solicited staff input from buildings across the district and that several changes were largely terminology updates, pay-rate adjustments and process clarifications. Trustees discussed how recent legislative changes shifted some Area Education Agency (AEA) responsibilities and funding, allowing the district to use AEA dollars to contract directly with known support providers for targeted literacy and behavioral services.
During the discussion, trustees asked whether AEA services remain free or are now fee-for-service in some cases; administrators explained some supports are funded through special education allocations while other services are now billed as fee-for-service with half-day or full-day increments. Board members described a model of six-week check-ins with buildings and targeted follow-up to identify students whose data are not moving as expected.
The board also approved issuance of letters of assignment and applied the Meet and Confer and IEA-approved rates to associates for the coming year.
Trustees made no amendments to the handbooks at the meeting and approved motions by unanimous vote.
The board packet included a document listing changes separate from the full handbook text to make review easier for trustees and the public.
