Lewiston accepts traffic signal cabinet donation, approves transfer of Hathaway Field lights to Genesee School District

The Lewiston City Council approved two donation agreements on Wednesday: acceptance of five traffic signal cabinets from the City of Coeur d'Alene, and donation of the Hathaway Field ballpark lights to Genesee Joint School District 282.
City Attorney Jennifer Tingano explained the Coeur d'Alene donation offers five mostly intact signal cabinets and related components; some internal components ("the brains") are not included. Under Idaho law, political subdivisions may donate surplus equipment to one another when a written agreement is in place. Tingano said the city will inspect the cabinets before final acceptance; if a cabinet is not acceptable, the city may decline that unit.
The Genesee School District donation moves lights that remain unused at Hathaway Field (a field the city no longer leases on airport property) to the district for reinstallation on district property. Under the agreement the district will remove the lights, repair any damage to the ball field, and accept the equipment as-is; the city will cap off the electrical cabinet left at Hathaway Field.
Councilors praised staff for identifying opportunities to reuse surplus equipment. Councilor comments credited transportation/street staff (Jason Thompson) for initiating the signal-cabinet conversation and noted the cost-savings potential of reusing equipment. Both donation resolutions were approved by roll call with all members recorded as yes.
