Animal Services reports 95.47% live outcome rate for March; GoodFix clinic planning set for late July

Animal Services presented its monthly operations report to the Animal Advisory Commission, reporting a 95.47% live outcome rate for March and describing volunteer, foster and media activity that staff said helped shelter outcomes.
Jason Garza, Animal Services, said the shelter took in 960 animals in March and processed 495 adoptions. The department reported 93 animals returned to owners and 37 field returns by Animal Protection. Volunteers contributed more than 6,100 hours in the month and the volunteer program processed 204 new foster applications, Garza said.
Garza also summarized veterinary services: 698 exams and 474 sterilizations in the month and an estimated $25,000 in emergency clinic bills transferred back to the shelter. Media metrics included roughly 1.5 million Facebook page views and 742,000 Instagram views; GoodFix outreach videos had about 315,000 views and 1,500 shares.
Commissioners pressed staff for additional breakdowns. Commissioner Norton asked for a monthly breakdown showing volunteer contributions to social media and a clear foster/adoption split; Garza agreed to include that data going forward. Commissioner Dulcaitis asked how many adopted animals came from fosters; Garza said approximately 22% of March adoptions were from foster placements.
Vice Chair Linder and others asked about the upcoming GoodFix mega clinic. Garza said staff was compiling after-action reports with ZIP-code and attendance data and that the next clinic will be held at Circuit of the Americas from July 28 through Aug. 1. He said staff is planning an after-action report and preparation for the July event and will circulate the findings to commissioners and elected officials when available.
Commissioners also asked about services for people in crisis and animals displaced by emergencies; Garza said staff had coordinated with partners including the Mexican consulate and would offer services to keep families and pets together when feasible.
No formal votes were taken during the briefing; commissioners requested additional data for future meetings.
