Commission approves replacement 8-foot fence in Arbor Estates; vote 6-1

The commission on April 14 approved, by a 6-1 vote, a special use permit for an eight-foot cedar board-on-board fence to replace an existing six-foot fence in Arbor Estates (Case ZC25-008).
Staff described the request as a replacement; the current fence had wind damage and the owner seeks an eight-foot replacement in the existing footprint. The applicant, Sabrina Turner of 5411 Sycamore Court, told the commission the requested fence would be “in the same footprint” and cited no conflicts with utilities. Staff reported receiving letters of support and stated a neutral recommendation.
Commissioners asked staff about the change in code since 2019 and confirmed this request was a replacement of an existing fence rather than new construction. After discussion, Commissioner Savoy moved to approve and Commissioner Obinabo seconded. The motion passed 6-1.
The commission’s approval will be forwarded to City Council as a recommendation; council will take final action on the special use permit.
