The Davidson County Board of Commissioners approved a rezoning request April 14 to change approximately 0.57 acres on the east side of NC Highway 8 (across from Smith Grove Church Road) from Highway Commercial (HC) to Office & Institutional (OI). The request was made by property owner Roddy Hobbs; Will Hutchins attended the hearing to represent him.
Planning staff recommended approval, telling the board that the site sits where both HC and OI zoning could be appropriate and that changes to NC Highway 8 (including widening at the location) and surrounding development support the request. Staff cited the Davidson County Land Development Plan and related policies as consistent with the rezoning and asked the board to adopt a statement of consistency.
Hobbs— representative said the owner has changed realtors and hopes reverting to OI will make the property easier to market and sell. No members of the public spoke in opposition or in favor during the hearing beyond the applicant—s representative.
A motion to approve the rezoning and adopt the statement of consistency carried on a voice vote. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the meeting transcript.
